"Der Musiker und sein Publikum" (The Musician and His Audience) is a notable publication by the legendary German conductor and composer Wilhelm Furtwängler. 1st edition. FREE UK postage.

The text was originally intended as a lecture to be delivered at the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts (Bayerischen Akademie der Schönen Künste). Furtwängler passed away in 1954 before he could actually deliver it. It was published posthumously in 1955 by Atlantis Verlag, based in Zürich and Freiburg im Breisgau. The work reflects Furtwängler's philosophical approach to music, emphasizing the "living organism" of a musical work and the spiritual connection between the performer and the audience. This first edition is a slim softcover volume of 39 pages, featuring a frontispiece and the author's facimile signature and has its original dust jacket. Slightly frayed wrapper on the top and bottom. Good clean copy.
