Condition Descriptions

How We Grade Our Items

At Ephemerara, we carefully assess each item and provide honest, detailed condition descriptions. Here's our grading system to help you understand what to expect:

Books

As New / Fine
A book in perfect condition with no defects. Appears unread with no marks, creases, or damage to covers or pages.

Very Good
A book showing minimal signs of use. May have minor shelf wear but pages are clean and binding is tight. No significant defects.

Good
A used book in solid reading condition. May show normal wear such as creased spine, minor cover wear, or light markings. All pages intact and readable.

Fair
A well-read copy with noticeable wear. May include worn covers, loose binding, highlighting, or annotations. Still complete and readable.

Poor
A heavily worn copy with significant defects such as torn pages, heavy markings, or damaged binding. Suitable for reading but not for collecting.

Maps & Printed Materials

Excellent
Minimal signs of age or use. Clean with vibrant colors and sharp details.

Very Good
Slight signs of age such as minor edge wear or light discoloration. Overall clean and attractive.

Good
Moderate signs of age including creases, edge wear, or some discolouration. Still displayable and legible.

Fair
Noticeable wear including tears, staining, or fading. May have repairs. Historical value but compromised appearance.

What We Note

In addition to the overall grade, we specifically mention: - Any writing, stamps, or inscriptions - Tears, stains, or repairs - Missing dust jackets or maps - Foxing (age spots) or discolouration - Any other notable features or defects
