This Oxford-based literary review was part of the vibrant post-war university magazine culture that provided a platform for essays, poetry and literary criticism from students and emerging writers associated with the University of Oxford.
The issue contains essays, poetry and literary commentary by a range of contributors, including a philosophical article titled Psychical Perplexity by Antony Flew, who later became one of Britain’s most prominent twentieth-century philosophers and a major figure in debates about atheism and philosophy of religion.
The magazine was edited by Basil Saunders with Russell Enoch, later a prominent Conservative politician, serving as assistant editor. It was printed locally in Oxford by Holywell Press.
University literary magazines from the immediate post-war period provide an interesting insight into the intellectual culture of Oxford during the late 1940s and often include early appearances by writers who later achieved wider prominence. Notable Contributors
